Announcements 12/6/15
1) Breakfast with Santa is this Saturday from 8:30 to 10:30. Tickets are available in the Band Room if you know of someone who wants to buy some. If you are working, please be there at 7 am to start cooking Pancakes and Sausages, and to finish setting up. We currently need about 3 or 4 more griddles to help with the cooking. I will not need all students working at this. In fact, I will only be asking for 15 volunteers on a sign up sheet this week.
2) For those students not working at Breakfast with Santa, we are asking for the following donations to help our profits on this event: Guard - candy canes, full size, it doesn't matter about color or flavor. Percussion - Orange Juice, quart size. Brass - 2% white milk, quart size. Woodwinds - Chocolate milk, quart size. Bring those any time this week and we will store the drinks in the cafeteria refrigerator.
3) We will have afterschool rehearsal this Thursday from 3:30 to 5 pm for the concert.
4) After the rehearsal, if you have signed up to perform at the District dinner, we will be performing right after rehearsal and will be done by 6 pm. Wear all black for the performance.
5) We will be responsible for concessions at the Monday, December 21 Basketball game. I need two more parent volunteers and two more student volunteers.

4) Parade this Saturday. We will not be taking a bus this year! We will pack instruments and uniforms in the Band trailer on Friday and take the trailer to the Elementary School on Saturday afternoon. If you want to take your uniform home with you on Friday so that you can just wear it to the parade, you can. Meet at the parking lot behind the Elementary school at 3 pm to get your instrument and uniform. Then go straight to the Lighthouse Church. We will warm up at 3:30 and the Parade will start at 4 pm. Wear a Santa Hat with your uniform.

Announcements 11/15/15
1) We are assigned to work concessions at next Tuesday's Basketball game. The date is November 24. Report time would be 5 pm and we would be done around 9 pm. These concessions are much easier than the Football games and we only have to work three of them. I need two more parents and will be asking a couple of students to join me in working next Tuesday. Let me know if you can help out.
2) We will be having memorization tests over the parade music this week. Measures 1-24 will be due on Tuesday and Measures 25-44 will be due on Friday.
3) Jazz Band will meet tomorrow (Monday) from 3:30 to 4:30 after school.
Sunday, November 8, 2015

2) We will be performing at the Veteran's Day program in the high school gym at 1 pm. We will be playing the Star Spangled Banner and Procession of the Chosen. Please invite any Veterans that you know!
3) Jazz Band will start next Monday. It is open to anyone who wants to try it out. It meets every Monday after school from 3:30 to 4:30. We will work up one song for the Christmas Concert and go ahead and start looking at music for next year.
4) I need all Fruit and Yankee Candle orders by Friday. This is especially important for Yankee Candle as the representative explained at the Booster meeting that we are on the very edge of getting the items in before Christmas Break.
5) Parents, I want to thank you for all the wonderful support you have given the band this season. It is beyond words trying to explain the appreciation that the band has for all the work of the pit crew, the cheering crew in the stands, the parents who help fix uniforms and make sure we are all taken care of as we prepare for performances, the drivers, the loaders, and everyone in between. Thank you for being there for your kids. It means the world to them and to their directors!

Announcements 11/1/15
1) Make sure you get your $10 in for the charter bus to state. We still have plenty of seats available to family members who want to travel with us.
2) Our Annual Fruit sale will begin this week. 50% of profits will go toward individual Disney accounts. Even if you are not going on the trip, we need you to sell fruit for the Band Account. We are looking at getting a new trailer for next year to help with carrying our growing amounts of equipment.
3) We will also be starting an optional Yankee Candle fundraiser this week. 100% of profits will go toward individual Disney accounts. You will have 2 weeks to sell for each fundraiser.
4) Booster meeting this Thursday night at 6:30. We will be discussing Breakfast with Santa, the pros and cons of either a new trailer or a semi-truck for carrying equipment, and many other things.
5) Mr. Laster has graciously agreed to let us use his semi for this State competition this weekend. Plan to stay a little later this Thursday after practice in order to load all of the props and other equipment on the Semi. If staying a little later on Thursday doesn't sound good to you, then we can move to plan B which is to load the semi Friday night...
6) I just wanted to say again how proud I was of the band this past weekend! Through last second schedule changes, to performing in a downpour, to loading up the trailers in the same downpour, these students stayed professional and did their job without complaint. And did it well! I was already proud of them when it was announced that they got 2nd overall, and it was just icing on the cake when we found out that they had actually won the Grand Champion award!

1) Thank you for an outstanding day at the Hornet Invitational! Everyone worked hard to make this an event successful beyond what we even hoped for. To every parent and student who worked, a humongous "Thank you!" from the bottom of my heart.

We will have a trailer going back and forth that morning to transport people to the Band Room.
3) We need coolers. Just like the tents and tables we still need - if you can bring one, make sure your name is on it!
4) Plan to wear your Band shirts so that spectators and bands will know who to ask when they have questions. Wear warm clothes since it is supposed to be chilly.

Announcements 10/4/15
1) Great job at Gibson County. It was two of our best runs yet! We still have a lot of work to do though, so don't let up.
2) Gibson County had 20 bands in their competition, and now we will have 20 bands in ours (we just added Southside). The reason I mention it is that you may have noticed how many parents and students it took to run that competition. We will need everyone working your assigned spots - especially since we are doing the exhibition at the end. The students will be learning what their jobs are and how to do them over the next couple of weeks so that the parents will be able to ask students any questions they may have about the jobs they are assigned.
3) Report time for this Friday's home game will be 6 pm.

1) The South Side Away Game and the Gibson County contest is this coming weekend. Itineraries will be posted tomorrow (Monday).
2) We need sponsors for the Hornet Invitational Program and the trophies. I will repost the sponsor forms this week.
3) Booster meeting this Thursday at 6:30 pm in the Band Room. We will be finalizing a lot of details about the Hornet Invitational.
4) It was great having snacks and gatorade at the competition this past Saturday. We will need some more for this coming weekend. If you can bring one box of snacks, it will be enough last not only this weekend, but our next contest as well.
5) It was also great having so much help this past Saturday at Liberty from the parents! We couldn't do it without you, and we hope you keep coming out to help and support us!

Competition announcements
1) Students will need to bring enough money for two meals on Saturday - lunch and supper. With concession stand prices, I recommend $20 total. We will have snacks available at our buses, but not the full meals needed to sustain the energy needed for two performances.
2) Admission to to get in to watch the competitions is $10 for each competition, or $18 if you go ahead and purchase tickets for both at the same time. You can purchase these at the gate. Parents that have signed up for Pit Crew/Chaperone duty will not have to worry about this fee since you will be working with the band.
3) If anyone has any pavilion tents they would be willing to let us use, it is great for the students to have a shady spot to relax in between performances.
4) Parents that are working on Pit Crew - you need to wear all black for the performances. I am fine with putting on black scrubs or loose jogging pants over what you will wear the rest of the day. I just want us to be invisible on the sideline and behind the props so that we do not draw attention away from the band.
5) FYI: It might get a little chilly by Saturday night, so you may want to consider bringing jackets and pants for the evening.
Sunday, September 20, 2015
Announcements 9/20/15
1) Night Rehearsal this Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:30. Please be on the football field in the opening set of the show at 6:30 with your instrument. This also means there will not be our normal rehearsal at 3:30 to 5:30. However, we will have our regular Thursday rehearsal from 3:30 to 5:30.
2) Parents who want to help out with Pit Crew and Props, please come to this Tuesday night rehearsal. We need as many parents to know how to run the props and pit crew as possible so that we can always have enough people even when some can't make it to some performances. We will also need to discuss what to wear at the performances.
3) Our first competition is this weekend! Remember that you will need to bring money for concessions for both lunch and supper. We will have snacks provided, but not full meals. Concession prices for competitions are usually comparable to football game concession prices. Also remember to have a change of clothes to wear under the uniform so that you can come out of the uniform in between performances Saturday. Freshmen: Upperclassmen will be glad to answer any questions you have about Competition Day!
4) We are still looking for sponsors for our Hornet Invitational Trophies and Programs. I will be reposting that Sponsor form tomorrow.
