Announcements 7/29/18

1)  School starts Wednesday!  We will be playing music on Wednesday during class.  If you are bringing your horns from home, you can bring them into the band room anytime before the bell rings but you can't go through the outside band room doors from the parking lot.  Due to security precautions, students can only enter through the gym foyer or the outside door between the cafeteria and CET hallway.  Use this door if you are being dropped off or parking in the back parking lot.

2)  Be ready for the first memorization test over Movement 1 on Thursday.

3)  Afterschool rehearsal on Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30.  Bring a change of clothes and everything else you need to be out in the heat.

4)  Booster meeting Thursday at 6:30.  We will be looking at fundraisers for the year, looking at signups for football games and competitions, and beginning our preparations for the Hornet Invitational.

5)  The people working on the field props will meet immediately after the meeting on Thursday to continue the work from last week.

6)  As we look toward the jamboree performance on Aug. 10, know that we will be wearing our band T-shirts (that you will receive this week) with khaki bottoms (pants or shorts) for the first few performances.  We are not going to be wearing full uniforms while it is still so hot outside.

Announcements 7/22/18

1)  We will have our other two half days of Band Camp this Monday and Tuesday from 8 am to noon.  Please be on the practice field ready for the stretch routine at 8 am both days.

2)  We will have a night rehearsal on Thursday from 6-8 pm due to teacher inservice that day.

3)  Parents working on the prop - we will have a work night on Tuesday starting at 6:30 pm.  We will start working on welding the columns and bending some of the pipe.

4)  The Smart Discount Card fundraiser has begun.  We are doing it slightly differently this year with a few options.  You can either sell them traditionally "door-to-door" or to family and friends or you can think of 10-20 phone numbers to call or text.  On Tuesday, we will spend time calling these numbers as a group with each band member calling or texting each number on their list asking them if they want to purchase a Smart Card.  Other programs have done this with success as it brings more accountability to simply asking people if they want to buy one.  They can't say yes if they are never asked.  One other option for this year - if you do not want to sell smart cards, simply bring in $50 and that will help us reach our goal for this fundraiser to keep our budget in good shape for the coming marching season.

4)  I want to thank the students and parents for a great week of Band Camp last week!  Your great attitudes, hard work, and fun left an impression on the staff that left them wanting more after it was all over.  They are really excited for the potential that this band has for this year and told me they will be following our progress throughout the marching season.  Let's keep it going this week as we continue to improve with each rehearsal!

Band Camp 2018!

Make sure you get a good night's sleep every night, eat a healthy breakfast, bring sunscreen, and bring plenty of water and gatorade everyday to practice.  This week is from 7 am to 4 pm every day with lunch from 11:30-1:00.  Finally, to bring a little fun to a long week, the Leadership Team has come up with Theme days for every day of the week!

Monday - 'Murica Monday.  Wear your favorite Patriotic attire and even bring your pet stuffed eagle if you want!

Tuesday - Tie-Dye Tuesday.  Wear your best Tie-Dye attire.  Also, this is Game Night!  From 6-9 pm, everyone is invited back to school to play board games, card games, and other games in the cafeteria.

Wednesday - Water Wednesday.  Immediately after Band Camp at 4 pm, everyone is invited to meet at the band practice field to participate in the water festivities.  This includes a slip and slide, water balloons, water guns, and more.  You can bring your bathing suits to change into!

Thursday - Throwback Thursday.  Wear your old band T-shirts from previous years, including your Middle School Band shirts.

Friday - Section Spirit Day.  Each section will be wearing their T-shirts.  If you have a shirt that supports your section, wear it!
