1)  The Band will be performing at the Christian Care Center Nursing Home on Monday to help kick off National Nursing Home Week.  Students who are in good academic and disciplinary standing will be called out of class at about 8:30 am to load up.  We will perform at 9:30 and then go back to school.  Seniors are invited to join us there at the location by Sonic.   I am asking that everyone wear either your Marked field show shirt or a black shirt to perform in.  No specific shorts or pants, and wear comfortable shoes.   Anyone who wants to come out and watch are more than welcome!  

2)  For students who volunteered to perform at the Baccalaureate service - please meet at Chapel Hill Church at 6:30 pm in Concert Attire.  Bring your instrument with you, and we will have the music stands there.  It starts at 7 pm and will probably end at around 8 pm.

3)  Graduation is Thursday night at 7 pm on the football field.  Please report to the Band Room by 6 pm so we can have everything ready on the field.  Concert attire. Bring water to have by you to drink since it will most likely be warm that evening.

Announcements 5/7/23

 1)  Strawberry Festival week!  A full itinerary for Friday will be available later this week, but we will be taking buses to this event.  If anyone needs to opt out of the bus ride from school (for example, if you are on a float earlier in the parade and need to be there earlier) find Mr. Price or Mr. Johnson and we will discuss that on a case-by-case basis.  The Parade starts at 10 am on Friday and we will be the last band to perform.  If anything changes due to weather, we will communicate that ASAP. 

2)  We are asking for some more water for the parade to keep the students hydrated. Also, we ask that you wash the uniforms since they got pretty stinky in the Teapot parade this past weekend!   

3)  Band Banquet is this Saturday.  Please have the payment in by Tuesday so we can pay for the caterer.  

Announcements 4/30/23

 1)  Booster meeting this Thursday at 6:30 pm in the Band Room. We will be going over details of end-of-the-year events, including the Band Banquet.  

2)  Afterschool rehearsal this Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00 for everyone marching in the parade.  

3)  The Teapot parade is Saturday.  A full itinerary will be posted this week, but know we will not be taking a bus.  Students will need to find their own way there by 9 am and their own way home after the parade is over at about noon.  An exact location to be dropped off in the morning will be included in the itinerary.  Make sure to have your uniform washed and ready to go before Saturday.

Announcements 4/23/23

 1)  Prepare to go outside this week as we set the block and rehearse for upcoming Spring parades.  Have shoes appropriate for marching, clothes to wear outside, and water to drink.  You can bring these items in and store in your cubby and you will have time to change if you need to before we go outside.

2)  Watch for announcements this week regarding the Band Banquet on Saturday May 13th.  Everyone who has been a part of the Marching, Concert, and Jazz Bands are invited to this end-of-the-year celebration of the SGC Band!

Announcements 4/16/23

 1)  Jazz Band concert Monday night at 7 pm!  It will be in the concrete area in between the East, West, and South Hallways.  If you come in from the Gym there will be signs leading the way.  Jazz Band will stay after school from 3:30 to 4:30 to set up and rehearse, then they will need to be back by 6:30 for final sound checks.  Attire is all black.

2)  Students need to be prepared to go outside every day as we prepare for the Spring Parades.  They need to have comfortable shoes, a water bottle, and weather appropriate clothing for class.  These items can be stored in their cubby if needed.  

Announcements 4/9/23

 1)  The Spring Concert is Tuesday at 7 pm.  Everyone is invited to this Free Concert!  It will feature performances from the Concert Band, the Rock Band, and a special encore performance from the award winning SGCHS Winter Color Guard.  Students need to report to the gym by 6:30 for warmup wearing concert attire except for the guard who will be wearing their performance attire.  It's going to be a great End-of-the-Year Concert!

3)  Jazz Band will rehearse from 3:30 to 4:30 on Monday.  Looking ahead, they will go ahead and have a rehearsal next Monday after school to get everything ready and set up for the Jazz Concert that night.  

4)  We have a Car Wash fundraiser approved for this Saturday the 15th.  More details will be available on Monday.  

Announcements 4/2/23

 1)  This Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the Band Room is the Fall Kickoff meeting!  Information about this summer and fall will be given out and the Field Show will be revealed!  8th grade students and parents - we want to see you there too.  We are excited to have you all join us!  

2)  Color Guard Clinic will be this Monday - Wednesday from 3:30 to 5:30 in the Cafeteria.  The auditions will be on Thursday right after school.  Let's get as many returning members and potential new members there as possible so that we can keep the fantastic momentum going with this group!

3)  Jazz Band will meet on Monday from 3:30 to 4:30.

Announcements 3/19/23

 1)  Let's start getting those Online Auction items in this week!  We want to start the auctions right after Spring Break which means we need to get the items in so that we can properly set them up.  Small items such as Gift Cards will give us the quantity of auctions we need while big ticket items will be the cornerstone of the overall fundraiser.  We need both quantity and quality items to make this auction work to it's fullest.  Both types make great advertisements for the businesses donating them.

2)  Solo and Ensemble is this Saturday for those who signed up for it.  Those students will need to find a ride to Northside HS.  Mr. Price will be there but will have to get there early.  Our block of time is 10-11 am.  This means you can find your assigned room and perform at any point during that time, then you are free to leave after you perform.  Medals will be given out after Spring Break.  It is suggested you get there a few minutes to warm up.  Assigned rooms will be posted in the band room.  Make sure you dress nice since the judge can see you!  Also, double check with Mr. Price to see if you have paid your Solo and Ensemble fee.

3)  Jazz Band will meet Monday from 3:30 to 4:30.

Announcements 3/12/23

 1)  Concert Festival week!  We will be traveling Friday to UT Martin to perform.  Students will go to 1st block, and then report to the Band room immediately after 1st block.  Please wear your Concert attire that day because we won't have time for people to change clothes before we have to load the bus.  Plan to bring money for lunch as we will eat at the food court/cafeteria at UT Martin.  A full itinerary will be posted on Monday. 

2)  Parents (and anyone else) are welcome to attend the concert festival performance at the Fine Arts Building. It is free admission, and we perform at 1:40.  Just know you won't be able to sit in certain sections because the judges will be seated in 3 selected areas of the theater.  You can sign your child out after sight-reading if you want them to ride home with you.

3)  Jazz Band will meet on Monday from 3:30 to 5:30.

4)  Shout out to the Band members that were involved with the Shrek musical this weekend!  It was an awesome show and you guys did terrific!    

Announcements 3/5/23

 1)  The girls basketball team qualified for the state tournament, so the band has been asked to play at their send off Monday morning.  Be prepared to report to the band room immediately after announcements, then go to the gym lobby.   We will play our usual pep songs.  ​​​​​​​

2)  Jazz Band will meet on Monday 3:30 to 4:30.

3)  Any band members signed up to play for the Shrek musical this week - plan on being on the focus list this week and plan on being at the theater rehearsal Tuesday afternoon until about 4:30.  This is when we will find out more details about the performances this coming weekend.

Announcements 2/26/23

1)  Booster meeting this Thursday at 6:30 in the Band room.   We will be discussing a lot of end-of-year items so that the April meeting can be focused on the Fall Kickoff.  

2)  Jazz Band will meet Monday after school.  

3)  Students who signed up for Solo and Ensemble need to get their fees in this week.  $10 per person, per event.  

4)  The Winter Guard will be performing at Summit High School this Saturday in their 3rd competition of the year.  Be sure to wish them luck!  They are doing awesome this year!

Announcements 2/20/23

 1)  Chamber Ensemble concert this Thursday at 7 pm!  Report time for students is 6:30 pm in the gym to warm up.  Concert attire - look nice, no jeans, no hats, no holes in pants!  The concert starts at 7 pm in the gym and, as always, is free of charge as a "Thank you" to parents and the community for supporting our many fundraisers.  

2)  Jazz Band pictures will be Tuesday during Focus. Bring a change of all black clothes for the picture - you will also need this attire for the concert in April.

Announcements 2/12/23

1)  This Thursday we will be inviting the 8th graders up for one last meet-and-greet rehearsal from 7-8 pm. We want as many current high school band students there as possible to give the upcoming freshmen a taste of playing with a huge marching band!  The exception will be with the Color Guard since they already have a fundamentals clinic with the 8th graders scheduled on Monday.  

2)  Jazz Band will be meeting on Monday in the Band Room from 3:30 to 4:30.  

Announcements 2/5/23

1)  Booster meeting this Tuesday at 6:30 pm.  This is the one that was rescheduled from last Thursday when we were out of school.

2)  Butter Braid sales will end this Wednesday.  It has been going great so far, so let's push to the end .  Remember - the less Butter Braids you sell, the more "Butter" puns Mr. Johnson will use!  So sell, sell, sell!!!

3)  Jazz Band will meet Monday from 3:30 to 4:30.

4)  Color Guard fundamentals start Monday from 3:30 to 5:30 and will continue every Monday through the month.  Fundamentals clinic is open to all current 7th and 8th graders and any high schooler wanting to audition for guard.  Invite your friends!  There is no fee for these days, so if your friends wants to learn or just see if they can do it, tell them to come on!  (Current Winter Guard members will continue their weekly rehearsal schedule.  They are not required to be at these clinics, but are more than welcome join the fun!)

1)  Booster meeting this Thursday at 6:30 in the Band Room.  We will be talking about summer and fall schedules, fundraisers, and end-of-the-year events.  See you there!

Announcements 1/22/23

1)  Our Butter Braid fundraiser will start this Wednesday.  

2)  Jazz Band will meet on Monday this week.

3)  Students going to UTM Honor Band will leave from the school at 10:30 am.  You will go to 1st block and most of 2nd block, where you will be called to the Band Room by the office.  You can bring your luggage to the Band Room that morning.

Announcements 1/16/23

1)  The color guard has been working on a Winter Guard show the last few weeks.  If you are interested in finding out more about what this is and what they have been working so hard on, they are giving a preview performance this Thursday at 5 pm at the Elementary school.  It's free admission, so come on out and see this awesome group!

2)  Since we were not in school on Monday, the Jazz Band will meet on Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30.

3)  I want to thank all of the students who worked this weekend to make the All West Auditions a success!  For those that stayed after school on Friday, you did a great job setting up and everything was ready to go for Saturday after just a few minutes.  For those that worked on Saturday, you did a great job of hospitality and putting the rooms back the way we found them at the end of the day.  Thank you so much for your hard work!!  We got so many compliments about how the event ran on Saturday!
