Announcements 1/27/19

1)  The Chili Supper is Monday from 5-7 pm.  I will have a sign up sheet for students to work 2 different shifts, one from 4:30 - 6:00, and one from 6:00 to 7:30.  I will need around 10 students at each shift.  Remember to have the following donations in by Monday morning because we start cooking at 1:30:

Trumpets - gallon of kidney beans and a bag of shredded cheese  

Flutes, Baritones, Tubas - A gallon of diced tomatoes and a bag of fritos

Percussion - a gallon of Chili beans and a bag of shredded cheese

Guard - a bag of frozen peppers or a bag of frozen onions, and a bag of corn chips (fritos)

Clarinets, Alto Saxes, Tenor Saxes, French Horns, Trombones - 2 pounds of ground beef. 

2)  We are taking our Marching Band Yearbook pictures Monday during class and right after school.  The individual pictures will happen during class and after school immediately following the group picture.  The Group picture will happen right after school so that everyone who is not in class can join us.  

3)  If you signed up to work the Concessions stand at the Basketball game that has been changed to Monday night, please be there by 5 pm.

4)  Jazz Band will meet on Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30.

5)  Students attending Memphis Honor Band this week:  Bring your luggage to the Band Room Thursday morning where it will be locked up in the band office.  We will be leaving at 1 pm from the school.  

Change to Chili Supper date

Due to the possibility of bad weather on Tuesday, the Basketball game has been moved to Monday night.  This means:

1) The Chili Supper is also being moved to Monday night.  It is still from 5-7 pm.  I will need those donations by Monday morning.  

2)  If you are signed up to work concessions at the Basketball game, please let me know if you are still able to work now that the game is on Monday night.  

This does not affect the mattress fundraiser on Saturday.  It is going to be a pretty day to invite everyone you know to come out and look at the mattresses on display in the Cafeteria while the Blue Suede Invitational is going on in the Gym.  

Announcements 1/20/19

1)  Jazz Band will rehearse Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30.

2)  The Mattress fundraiser will be this Saturday from 10 AM to 5 PM in the Cafetorium.  I will need 25 to 30 students to sign up for 2 hour shifts throughout the day to help publicize the event.  The Blue Suede Invitational basketball tournament will be happening so this is a great opportunity to let a lot of people know about the sale as they come in for the Basketball games all day.  I will have a sign up sheet in the Band Room.  Remember that you get rewarded for every time someone gives your name when they make a purchase.

3)  Looking toward next week, we will be working the basketball concessions next Tuesday the 29th.  I will need a couple of parents and 4 students to work this game.  

4)  Next Tuesday will also be our Chili supper.  As always, to help with our profts we are asking for donations of the ingredients to make the chili. Everyone needs to bring a small dessert.  Here is what each section needs to bring (Guard is included on this!)

Announcements 1/13/19

1)  Congratulations to all the students who auditioned for All West this weekend!  We had ten students that made the All West Honor Band and one student who made the All State Honor Band!  I am proud of all the students who put forth the effort and their own time to work up this challenging music.  You will be a better musician because of it and in turn we will be a better band!

2)  Jazz Band will meet this Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30.

3)  Leadership team - we will have a meet-and-greet rehearsal with the 8th grade band members in the High School Band room this Thursday from 7 - 8 pm.  Be ready to welcome our future members and answer any questions they may have about the band or about High School in general.

4)  Everyone including Guard:  We never got our pictures made for the yearbook last semester.  Please try to clear the early afternoon of Monday, January 28 right after school to take these pictures.  If you are in class now, we will do the individual pictures during class.  Then we will take the full band picture immediately after school and then let anyone else who wants individual or group pictures to stay and get those taken.  

Announcements 1/6/19

1)  All West auditions at this Saturday at Arlington High School.  Audition times have been posted in the Band Room.  At some point this week during Focus time,  I will be going over the logistics for Saturday with all the students auditioning.  Good Luck this weekend!

2)  Jazz Band will meet this Tuesday from 3:30 to 4:30.  

3)  As you plan for the summer, I wanted to go ahead and let everyone know you need to leave you calendar open for July 15 - 26 for Band Camp.  It will have a similar schedule to previous years for those two weeks.  

Booster meeting on Thursday

Remember the booster meeting this Thursday at 6:30 pm.  We will get free money for every parent that comes to this meeting to hear from the mattress fundraiser representative!  The fundraiser is on January 26 and requires no time from the parents and only a handful of students to be there at the event.
