Announcements 9/16/18

1)  I want to congratulate the Field Commander on his 2nd place trophy this weekend and the Color Guard on their 3rd place trophy.  Obviously it was a very competitive class with top notch bands and these awards were well-earned!

2)  As you practice this week, learn the parts around you and how your part fits in with the rest of the band.  A great resource is to get the recordings that are found on the side of southgibsonband.blogspot.com and listen to them over and over.  Learn everyone else's part this week!

3)  Drumline will have rehearsal Monday from 3:30 to 4:30.  Not Front Ensemble, just the drumline.

4)  Report time for Friday is 6:00 pm.  If you took your uniform home to wash, make sure it is back by Friday.

5)  On Saturday, the morning rehearsal will begin at 8:30 am.  A full itinerary will be posted on Monday.  This will be an all day event.  It is actually two events at the same location, not a prelims-finals event like last week.  Also, we are going to need a few more packs of water for this weekend.  We have done a great job keeping the students hydrated with all the water that has been donated.  With temperatures where they have been and with the number of students involved in this band, we go through the water quickly!

6)  The second shirt orders should be in this week.  I will let you know when they come in.

Announcements 9/9/18

1)  Our first competition is this weekend!  The Gibson County Marching Invitational itinerary will be posted Monday morning.  This will be an all day event, so we will talk this week on how to prepare for these long days.  For parents, we always like bringing snacks to these events for the students to eat in between performances and meals.  Granola bars, crackers, and fruit are perfect examples of what we are looking for in light, nutritious snacks that won't weigh the students down.

2)  We will be wearing our Uniforms this weekend starting with the Away game at Westview on Friday night.  Make sure you have long black socks to wear.  Band members, I have gloves available for $2 in the office.

3)  Report time for Friday is 5 pm.  We will be leaving at 5:30, or a little earlier if we can.  We will be using props and Guard barriers, so the Pit Crew will be needed.

4)  With Great Uniforms comes Great Responsibility!  Take care of these uniforms when you fold them, when we travel, and when we are wearing them.  Concessions at football games will be limited due our desire to keep our uniforms in good shape.  Water only!  No condiments on burgers or hot dogs.  No cheese with nachos.  Parents, please help with this by not bringing cokes during the 3rd quarter.  At competitions, you will not be in uniform when we eat meals so the limited menu will not be in effect there.

5)  There is a mistake on the Band Calendar.  On September 21 and 24, the band calendar says "No School".  That is incorrect.  The last few years, we have not had school on those days due to Parent Teacher Conferences.  The District has revamped those conferences to where school will be in sessions those days.  I apologize for the mistake and for any inconvenience this has caused in any planning for that weekend.

Announcements 9/2/18

1)  This Tuesday's rehearsal is a night rehearsal from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.  We will not have the rehearsal from 3:30 to 5:30.  Parents who are planning on helping with props, guard barriers, and front ensemble instruments - this rehearsal is for you!  Learn where all the props are going to go and how we are going to get on and off the field with all of this stuff.  You help this show run smoothly and I want to thank you for helping us put on our best performance!

2)  Booster meeting this Thursday at 6:30 pm.  We will be spending a lot of time on the Hornet Invitational.  Also we will be talking about the logistics of traveling to the competitions among other things.

3)  We are out of water.  If you get a chance to grab a pack of bottled water, bring it by the band room so that we are able to keep these performers hydrated.  We had a great response at the beginning of the year and it helped immensely.  The students have been thankful for and have been drinking the water provided for them during this hot August and need some more as we head into September.

4)  Report time for this Friday is 6:15 pm.  We plan on using the props and Guard barriers for this game.  No uniforms yet, it is still simply too hot.  I don't want to risk the performers' health by putting them in full uniform while the heat index is still in the 90s.

5)  I want to send a big "Thank you!" to the awesome Band Dads who gave up a lot of hours the past few weeks putting the props together for the show!  They are a great group of guys who can work hard, figure out impossible problems, and still have a load of fun doing it!  The Pagoda looks spectacular and will make its debut Tuesday night.
