I can’t thank everyone enough for coming together and making the 2021 Hornet Invitational a hugely successful event! It took the effort of everyone involved in the SGC Band program to make this happen. There were so many compliments from directors and others about the hospitality and organization of the competition. For almost everyone involved, this was the first marching competition in two years, and I am so proud that we gave them a positive experience to kick off the 2021 season!
Now it’s our turn: It’s Competition Week!
1) We have two performances at UTM this Saturday: The WTSBOA Marching Festival, where we do not compete against other bands but instead receive ratings similar to Concert Festival in the spring. That evening we perform in the Aviators Marching Band Invitational, where we will compete in the largest class of bands. For those unfamiliar with how that works, most competitions, including ours, break up bands according to their size and have them compete against similar size bands. The one exception will be the State competition, where they base their numbers on School Enrollment. A full itinerary and more information about Saturday will be available Monday.
2) Our football game this Friday against Henry County will be pep band only. Their administration called our school and told them that due to Homecoming events during halftime, we would not have time to perform. We are still going to go to the game and have a good time playing pep songs, but we will wear our Section T-shirts (we will wear the field show shirts Saturday) and khaki bottoms instead of uniforms. We will also only need to take the small band trailer. Report time will be 5:00 and we will leave at 5:15.
3) Speaking of uniforms, we will need to wash those things every week because you know they get nasty with sweaty people performing field shows in them! Here are the basics: Band uniform jackets and pants can be washed in a washing machine with cold water and detergent with no bleach. Hang up to dry. Hand wash the gauntlets so that the Velcro lasts longer. The Guard uniforms are more fragile and need to be hand washed and hung up to dry.
4) Guard will have a rehearsal on Monday from 3:30 to 5. We will get the rifle work to movement 2 done along with starting movement 4 work.
I can't wait until Saturday!!!!!
