Announcements 7/25/21

1)  We will have rehearsal this Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at the practice field.  Freshman Orientation is Tuesday from 6 to 6:30 pm, so the freshmen will come to practice when that is over.  And since Mr. Johnson and I need to be at the orientation, the first few minutes of rehearsal will be at the practice field with fundamentals led by the section leaders.  Front Ensemble will be inside rehearsing.  Also, I will keep an eye on the weather due to the possibility of pop up storms and/or high heat index.  So keep an eye out on Tuesday for any last minute changes to the location of rehearsal.

2)  As you start preparing for school next week, you need to think about having a change of clothes and water for class every day.  You are able to come into the band room from the cafeteria every morning when you get to school and drop off these items along with your instrument in your cubbie in the band room.

3)  Mr. Johnson and I are so proud of the band from Band Camp!  Everyone worked hard, had great attitudes, and got a lot done even in the heat.  And props to the Leadership team for the fun theme days and activities that they organized all week!  It was the perfect kickoff for this marching season that we have been looking forward to this year!

Announcements 7/6/21

I hope everyone has had a great summer!  Next week starts Band Camp and we can't wait to get started!!!

1)  We are going to have a Band Booster meeting this Thursday at 6 pm.  I want to start at 6 so we can be done by 7 because there are a few of you who have kids performing in the school musical that night.  This meeting will give information about Band Camp, give new parents the opportunity to ask about the fall marching season, and let us get started with some logistics going into this fall.  It will be in the Band room and we will try again to live stream it.

2)  Color Guard - we will have a rehearsal this Saturday from 9-noon.  I know this is last minute, but the man choreographing our routine is done with movement 1.  He will not be able to be at band camp next week because he is already committed to another band camp, but he wanted to teach the routine in person.  This will be a great opportunity to get set up for a great week of practice next week where we can really clean that first movement and have it ready to go.

3)  Parents who want to help build props - we will meet briefly after the meeting Thursday night to come up with a game plan, and then have a work day on Saturday morning from 9-noon while the Color Guard is learning their routine.  We need to finish the props we built last year as well as build a cart for our new mixer board.

Announcements 5/16/21

1)  I want to thank everyone for a great year this year!  We were so lucky to be able to have band class all year - something many programs in the state and in the country weren't able to do.  I am thankful that we stayed safe during the year.  Most of all, I am now more thankful than ever for what a "normal" year is.  Sometimes things have to be taken away to really appreciate what they mean to you.  Because of that, I am more excited about this fall than ever before!

2)  If you haven't brought your uniform back in from the parades, please get that done this week.

3)  Laundry detergent was delivered on Friday and is available for pickup starting Monday.

4)  It's time! Field Show music will be given out this week!  8th graders - your music is in the band room at the middle school.  Students who are not in class right now - come by the band room to get your music.  Everyone - this is your music.  Keep up with it, take care of it, we will be using this for the next few months.  Get a binder with page protectors or whatever it takes not to lose this music!

5)  Marching fees this year are as follows - Winds - $150, Percussion and Color Guard - $200.  If you can get half or all of it paid by the end of school, that would be awesome as we begin purchasing services and items for the field show.  Otherwise, it will need to be paid by the end of Band Camp.  Make checks payable to SGCHS.

6)  Our first rehearsals will be starting June 9 from 8 - 11 am.  If you are on vacation, don't worry about it, but try to make it to these June rehearsals if you are in town.

Announcements 5/9/21

1)  What a great job everyone did this past Friday!  You sounded great on Star Wars the entire route, and represented SGC in amazing fashion within the Mass Band.  Thank you for your hard work and resolve to make it down the parade route twice!

2)  Uniforms need to be brought back this week.  Guard, we need those uniforms back on Monday so that we can get them delivered with the rest of the mass band uniforms for storage until the Rose Parade.  Senior Band members, you can bring those uniforms in anytime this week.  Washing instructions on all uniforms - Use your normal detergent with cold water, no bleach. Let air dry.  It is okay to use stain remover if you need to.

3)  For those that signed up to play at the Baccalaureate service this Tuesday, it will be at Chapel Hill Baptist Church at 7 pm.  I will need you to report there by 6:30 wearing concert attire.  The service will last approximately one hour.

4)  Graduation is a mandatory performance for the Concert band class this Thursday.  Graduation is at the football field and starts at 7 pm.  Report to the Band room at 6 pm wearing concert attire.

Announcements 5/2/21

1)  Strawberry Festival week!  For your uniforms that we are wearing Friday, make sure that you have long black socks to wear.  We will make sure that everyone has shoes and gloves this week.  Also, a full itinerary for Friday will be posted later this week.

2)  We were originally planning on not taking buses on Friday, but now we are looking at having buses available to leave from the school and bring us back.  You can still find your own way there if you want.  I will put up a sign up sheet this week for everyone who plans on riding the bus.

3)  Laundry Detergent orders are due on Monday.

4)  The Candle orders have come in, and will be distributed to the students on Monday.

5)  The Band Awards Night is this Saturday at 6:30 in the gym.  Seniors will sit at tables on the gym floor with their families, and everyone else will sit in the bleachers with their families.  We ask that you dress up on this night to reflect on this past year and honor our graduating seniors.

6)  Students, we will be getting a special visit this Thursday during class from Robert Miller, the president of the Tournament of Roses Parade.  He will be flying in to see the students involved in the Mass Band and to see us at the Strawberry Festival Parade.  Plan on playing through the mass band songs during class as we welcome him to our school all the way from California!

Announcements 4/25/21

1)  The teapot parade is this Saturday.  Look for the full itinerary that was posted last Friday to get the times associated with the Parade that morning and the Mass Band rehearsal that evening.

2)  Color Guard will rehearse this Tuesday from 3:30 to 5 pm.

3)  Full Band rehearsal this Thursday from 3:30 to 5 pm.  Everyone needs to be there since this is the only rehearsal we are having together before the parade.  If it is raining, we will meet in the gym.

4)  In person Booster meeting this Thursday at 6:30 in the Cafeteria.  This will replace the May 4th meeting originally scheduled since we needed to go ahead and discuss details about Saturday and Strawberry Festival week.  We will discuss details about the upcoming parades, volunteers that are needed for Strawberry Festival week, Band Awards night details, and Summer rehearsal dates.

5)  The students did a GREAT job on their Concert Festival recording last week.  Those will be scored by judges this coming weekend.  Now it's time to focus on memorizing music for the parades.  Let's get these songs memorized for Saturday!
