Calendar update

There are two things to put on the calendar for Saturday, August 23:

1)  The football game at Camden will be that night at 7 pm.  Yes, the game will be on a Saturday night.  It's the first time I can remember ever doing that.  That means we will not have anything on Friday the 22nd.

2)  Also, for percussion, the Drumline Tuneup day at UTM is August 23rd.  I have requested a morning time so that we can get back in time for the Camden game that night.  Again, this is for Percussion only (Drumline and Front Ensemble).

Announcements 6/22/14

1)  Our third summer rehearsal is this Wednesday, June 25.  Woodwinds and Brass from 8 to 11 and Percussion and Guard from 1-4.  Be sure to wear the right kind of shoes as we will go outside, weather permitting.

2) I still need a few forms turned in from some people.  Make sure you have turned in your Student Info Form, Parent Info form, and have paid for your DCI tickets if you are going.

Announcements 6/15/14

1)  Our second summer rehearsal is this Wednesday.  Brass and woodwind from 8 to 11.  Percussion and Guard from 1 to 4.  Remember to bring tennis shoes so that we can do marching fundamentals outside.  Last week's rehearsal was awesome!  We had a huge turnout and were able to sight-read through part 1.

2)  If you didn't get the DCI money turned in last week, please get that in this Wednesday.  I am having to use money that is reserved for other marching band purchases to cover the costs until I get everyone's money in.

Announcements 5/18/14

1)  We will continue to look at next year's Field Show during class this week.  It is never too early to start memorizing, by the way...

2)  Everyone needs to get four things from the Band room if they haven't yet: a) schedule for the summer/fall, b) the new Parent info sheet, c) student info sheet that I just put out there this past week, and d) the marching band fees payment info sheet.  These things were passed out at the big April meeting, but if you were unable to make it to that meeting, make sure I get the student and parent info sheet before school lets out this week.

3)  It is never to early to pay part or all of the Marching Band fees.  I am already making purchases towards next year's show, with many more that need to be made before Band Camp starts.

4)  Later this week, I will getting more info out about the DCI show in Murfreesboro that we are going to be looking at going to at the end of July.  We will get a group rate on tickets, but we will need to include the cost of buses to take there also.

5)  The next two dates you need to know are June 11, the first summer rehearsal, and June 12, the next Booster meeting at 6:30.  We decided at the last meeting to go ahead and do meetings during the two summer months to stay on top of the logistics of the competition and the Field Show.

Announcements 5/4/14

1)  Huge congratulations to the Band for their performance this past Saturday at the Teapot parade.  They represented the school brilliantly!  Keep it up this week as we work on the horn flash and the halftime steps for the Strawberry Festival.

2)  I need two younger siblings (middle school age) to march our banner down the street at the Strawberry Festival in front of the band.  If there is anyone interested in volunteering, please let me know.

3)  The students who will be getting themselves to the parade and/or leaving with their parents afterward need to get me a note again this week for my documentation purposes.

4)  The Band Banquet is this Saturday at 6 pm in the SGCHS Cafetorium.  Please turn in your money by this Tuesday so that we can have a check ready for the caterers.  As always, this is a formal event with no particular theme so feel free to dress up and get ready to eat some good food and reflect on the past year.

Jazz Concert

The weather tonight does not look so menacing as it did earlier tonight, so we will go ahead and do the Jazz Band concert in the Cafetorium at 6:30 tonight.  Bring your dancing shoes!
