Announcements 8/16/15

1)  We will be working on the props again Monday night starting at 6:30.  It was great having a few extra parents there last week, and we would love to see a few more this week!

2)  Memorization Test for Movement 2 will be Wednesday.

3)  The T-shirts will be in this week before Friday.  Keep an eye on these announcements as I will let you know as soon as I get them.

4)  Our first Home game is this Friday.  The game starts at 7:30 pm (not 7:00!)  Report time will be 6:15.  Students will wear the same thing they did this past Friday night.  We will be done between 10 and 10:30.  Students will get 3rd quarter off to eat concessions.  If you want to bring money for that, feel free.

5)  Drumline tuneup day is this Saturday for the entire percussion section.  A full itinerary will be available in the next couple of days.  We will need a few parents to drive so that everyone gets up there (we are not taking a bus).

Announcements 8/9/15

1) If any parents are free Monday night and want to help out, we will be working on the Rube Goldberg machine starting at 6:30 at the Band Room.

2)  Jamboree this Friday night.  We will be going to Peabody HS.  All Band students will ride the bus.  Report time to the school will be 5:00 pm, and we will depart at 5:30.  You will need to wear Band T-shirts, khaki bottoms, and tennis shoes.  No hats, please!  We will get back between 9 and 10.

3)  Keep remembering to bring a change of clothes every day if you need them during Band class.

Announcements 8/2/15

1)  Rehearsals start Tuesday, 3:30 to 5:30.  Bring a change of clothes that includes tennis shoes.  Make sure you have your coordinate cards also.

2)  We will be taking pictures after school on Thursday.  Wear your Band T-shirts and khaki pants/shorts.

3)  Booster meeting this Thursday at 6:30 pm in the Band Room.

4)  T-shirt orders will be due by the end of this week.

5)  Smart Cards and/or money will be due by the end of the week.  You will need to return any unsold Smart Cards.

6)  Our first performance will be Friday, August 14 at the Jamboree in Trenton.  We will be performing at approximately 7:45 pm.

7)  Percussion:  Add to your calendar - August 22 - UTM Drumline Tuneup Day.  We will report to the school at 11 am, and will arrive back around 7 pm.  Eat lunch beore you leave; we will eat supper in Martin.  A full schedule will be available shortly.

Announcements 7/26/15

1)  What a great week of Band Camp!  Parents, you should be proud of how hard your children worked and what they were able to get done!  Percussion and Guard will meet this Tuesday from 6-8 pm.  Thursday's practice has been cancelled due to Freshmen Orientation that is scheduled at 6:30 that night.  For everyone else, remember that we start our normal Tuesday/Thursday 3:30-5:30 rehearsals next Tuesday after school.  Remember to have a change of clothes at the end of every school day - prepare to go outside during Band class every day.

2)  Shirt orders and money will be due by the end of the first week of school.

3)  Smart Cards and money will be due by the end of the first week of school.

4)  Booster meeting next Thursday, Aug. 6 at 6:30 in the Band Room.  All parents are invited.  Booster meetings are the first Thursday of every month unless otherwise noted.

5)  The Jackson Youth Symphony is having auditions this Saturday, Aug. 1 starting at 9 am at Jennings Hall, Union University.  Some of our former and current students have done this before and have loved it!  One of the great benefits is having a side-by-side concert with the Jackson Symphony.  If you are interested, you can go to "http://thejacksonsymphony.org/web/page.aspx?title=Youth+Orchestra" for more info.  This is includes the application, audition excerpts, and other info. There is a $10 application fee for the audition. They have rehearsals on Thursday nights, and you would have time to get to them after our rehearsals are over.  Email me if you have any questions.  If you need a solo for the audition, you can come by the Band room and get one.

Announcements 7/19/15

1)  Please pay your band fees and DCI fees that are due this week.  It is important for the band to be able to pay our bills in a timely manner, such as paying the staff this week.
2)  We will begin each day this week at 7 AM on the practice field.  You will need your instrument, your coordinate cards, whatever you need to stay cool and hydrated.
3)  Please bring snacks to put into the snack tub so that we have them there for emergencies not just during band camp but as school starts, also.
4)  Lunch this week starts at 11:45 every day and is on your own.  You have the option bringing your food and eating in the cafeteria or going off campus to get your food.  Just be in your sectional area inside ready to play at 1:15!
5)  For the people going on the DCI trip this Friday, I am planning on meeting at the school at 2:00 in the afternoon and pulling out by 2:15.  We are going to be stopping at exit 172 to eat an early supper.    You will need to bring money for this if you plan on eating there.
6)  This week, I will have a sign-up sheet for Band T-shirt orders.  These are for band members, friends, and family.  Prices will be:  Short sleeve shirt - $10, Long sleeve T-shirt - $13, Sweatshirt - $15, Hoodie - $20.  They will all be the same color and have the same design as the current band T-shirt.
7)  Remember that Monday is 'Murica Monday at Band Camp!

Announcements 7/12/15

1)  It's time for Band Camp!  All Freshmen, All Percussion, All Guard, and Leadership Team report at 8 am in the Band Room.  We will be done at Noon.  Let's get on the ground running as we start with the fundamentals and welcome all of the Freshmen to the SGC Band!

2)  Everyone else, you will report on Wednesday at 8 am in the Band Room.  

3)  Please start getting in your Marching Band fees and DCI money so that we can start paying the bills for the stuff that has already been done to prepare for this year's show.

4)  Parents:  I need a volunteer or a duo of volunteers to prepare lunch for the Band Camp staff next Wednesday, July 22.  I have all the other days covered except for that one.  If you are interested or want more info, just email me at southgibsonband@gmail.com.

Announcements 7/5/15

1)  For those interested in the Design Team that is building the Rube Goldberg machine props, we will be meeting Monday, July 6 at 6 pm at the Band Room to try and build a couple of the props.  

2)  Booster meeting Tuesday, July 5 at 6:30 pm in the Band Room.

3)  Leadership team meeting this Thursday at 9 am in the Band Room

4)  Next Monday, July 13 - ALL Freshmen, ALL Percussion, ALL Guard, and Leadership team will start the 2015 Band Camp at 8 am in the Band Room!  Everyone else will start Wednesday, July 15.
