Announcements 5/18/14

1)  We will continue to look at next year's Field Show during class this week.  It is never too early to start memorizing, by the way...

2)  Everyone needs to get four things from the Band room if they haven't yet: a) schedule for the summer/fall, b) the new Parent info sheet, c) student info sheet that I just put out there this past week, and d) the marching band fees payment info sheet.  These things were passed out at the big April meeting, but if you were unable to make it to that meeting, make sure I get the student and parent info sheet before school lets out this week.

3)  It is never to early to pay part or all of the Marching Band fees.  I am already making purchases towards next year's show, with many more that need to be made before Band Camp starts.

4)  Later this week, I will getting more info out about the DCI show in Murfreesboro that we are going to be looking at going to at the end of July.  We will get a group rate on tickets, but we will need to include the cost of buses to take there also.

5)  The next two dates you need to know are June 11, the first summer rehearsal, and June 12, the next Booster meeting at 6:30.  We decided at the last meeting to go ahead and do meetings during the two summer months to stay on top of the logistics of the competition and the Field Show.

Announcements 5/4/14

1)  Huge congratulations to the Band for their performance this past Saturday at the Teapot parade.  They represented the school brilliantly!  Keep it up this week as we work on the horn flash and the halftime steps for the Strawberry Festival.

2)  I need two younger siblings (middle school age) to march our banner down the street at the Strawberry Festival in front of the band.  If there is anyone interested in volunteering, please let me know.

3)  The students who will be getting themselves to the parade and/or leaving with their parents afterward need to get me a note again this week for my documentation purposes.

4)  The Band Banquet is this Saturday at 6 pm in the SGCHS Cafetorium.  Please turn in your money by this Tuesday so that we can have a check ready for the caterers.  As always, this is a formal event with no particular theme so feel free to dress up and get ready to eat some good food and reflect on the past year.

Jazz Concert

The weather tonight does not look so menacing as it did earlier tonight, so we will go ahead and do the Jazz Band concert in the Cafetorium at 6:30 tonight.  Bring your dancing shoes!

Announcements 4/27/14

1)  The Jazz Band Concert will be held in the Cafetorium Monday night at 6:30.  If tornadoes or very strong storms are imminent, I will make the call to cancel it.  But until then, the show is still on.  Jazz Band students are to report at 6 pm wearing concert attire.  Invite every one you know and tell them to bring their dancing shoes!

2) We are having our only afterschool practice for the parades this Tuesday.  Students who are not in the class but are still marching the parades are expected to play their music by memory by Tuesday.

3)  Band Booster meeting this Thursday.  It will be the final meeting of the school year.
4)  I need final numbers for the Band Banquet by Wednesday of this week.  Please sign up by then.  Money will be due early next week ($14 per plate for guests, high school band students are free.)

5)  Pictures for the Band Banquet need to be sent to Tyler Delaney by this Friday.  delaney91797@gmail.com

6)  Itineraries for both Parades will be available starting tomorrow afternoon.  I am giving students the option of meeting us at the parades this year.  They can drive themselves (but with no passengers) or they can have their parents drop them off at the meeting place.  I need to know who is doing this by Tuesday so that I can reserve the correct number of buses.  If they choose to do this, they will be responsible for their uniform and instrument.

7)  Leadership Team interviews will begin this week.  Applications needs to be in by Tuesday.

Announcements 4/20/14

1)  The last night rehearsal with 8th graders is this Tuesday, April 22 from 6:30 to 8:00.  All band members are invited and encouraged to attend.  And if you know any of the 8th graders, invite them.  I invite them, but it is always better when you are the ones inviting them.  Oh, and I will be passing out some of the 2014 Field Show music at this rehearsal as well.

2)  The Spring Concert is this Thursday, April 24 at 7.  Students are to report at 6:30 on stage for warm-up.  Concert attire (no jeans, tennis shoes.)  One thing that we will have to do this time is not only pick up all the chairs, but also take everything from the stage back to the Band Room after the concert.  They will lock up the Cafeteria and start getting things ready for the prom as soon as we are done Thursday night.

3)  Next Monday, April 28 will be the first stand alone Jazz Band Concert.  We will start kind of small this year, but I want this to grow into more of a community event.  We will be performing at the Medina park beside the small parking lot next to the playground.  We will have a few chairs for spectators, but everyone is encourage to either bring your lawn chairs or simply stay on your feet and dance with the music.  I will have a small portion of the Parking lot roped off as kind of a dance floor for anyone who gets the urge to do a little dance!  The Jazz Band starts playing at 6:30, it will be free admission, and we will play until the sun goes down.

4)  I forgot to get the Band Banquet sign out sheet last week with everything going on, but will definitely have it out this week.  Please sign up so we know how many to plan for.

5)  Don't forget to send your Band Banquet pictures to Tyler Delaney (delaney91797@gmail.com).

3)  The first Parade song memorization test is this Tuesday.  Be ready!

4)  The final Spring rehearsal with the 8th graders is Next Tuesday, April 22. Please do your best to make it to this rehearsal so that the upcoming freshmen have a chance to meet you.  This will make the transition easier for them as they enter High School this coming year.

5)  Remember to get those pictures in to Tyler Delaney for the Band Banquet slide show.

Announcements 4/6/14

1.  Booster meeting this Tuesday at 6:30.  I will have the schedule for next fall, information about Band Camp payments, a parent information sheet, and will be revealing the field show for next year.

2.  Start thinking about sending in pictures from this past year for the Band Banquet slide show.  Send them to Tyler Delaney at delaney91797@gmail.com.  He is also considering a separate slideshow for the Seniors that would include pictures from the last four years.  Send these under the message line "Senior slide show".  Please get these to him within the next couple of weeks.  We are setting a deadline of the end of April so that he has time to get them together before the Banquet.

3.  We will need some parents to help pick up the meat and prepare it for pickup this Saturday.  Please let me know if you can help.  We are getting it from Reggie's BBQ this year, so that means we don't have to stay all night.  But we do need extra hands to get it wrapped and ready for pick up.  Pick up for the BBQ sale is from noon - 2 pm on Saturday.
