Announcements 1/15/14

1) Remember the Booster meeting tomorrow night (Thursday) at 6:30.  We will be deciding on whether to host a marching competition in the fall and setting the dates for the Butter Braid Fundraiser and Beauty Pageant.

2)  Congratulations to Sarah Foust, Brook Gardner, Reese Gardner, Seth Gibson, Kaytyn Lewis, Destiny Meyer, Rebecca Mooney, Matthew Paschall, Danielle Price, Maggie Walgren, Samuel Walgren, and Josh Young for making the All West Honor Band!!!  Braydon Hendrix was also selected as an alternate.  It was actually even harder to make All West this year due to the way the bands are structured, but we still ended up with the most students ever to make All West in the same year.  12 made it this year.  I am very proud of these students, and all the students who took upon themselves the challenge of learning very difficult music.  They are better musicians because of this, and that can only help the band.

3) For those students who made UTM Honor Band, I need your $45 registration fee ASAP.

4)  For those students who made All West Honor Band, I need your $30 registration fee and signed contract ASAP.

Tuesday

I just got word that there is no school tomorrow (Tuesday) for students, but there will be an inservice day for teachers.

1)  Mr. Hinson said there will still be a basketball game, so we still need to work concessions.

2)  If any All West participants want to practice in the Band room tomorrow, it will be open from 9 am to 3 pm.  Feel free to come at any time to practice.  I can't guarantee that I will be in there to help out, though.  I might be in meetings all day.  However, I always find that I can focus better when I practice in a place like the Band or Chorus room.  And if I am able to be in there at any point, I will be more than glad to help you out or just listen to you play.

Announcements 1/5

I hope that everyone has enjoyed their break, including the bonus day tomorrow (Monday)!  I am looking forward to this semester - we have another great Ensemble concert planned, I am excited about our two Concert Festival pieces, and there are just so many other things to look forward to this Spring.

1)  We will be working this concessions at the Basketball game this Tuesday!  It was originally planned for this Thursday, but had to be changed.  There isn't that much to the Basketball game concessions, they are actually pretty easy.  I need 5 or 6 parents who can help do this.  If you can be there at 5 or even a little after that, let me know.

2)  That also means we need to reschedule our Booster meeting.  It can't be this Thursday because of the school board meeting, so it will need to be next Thursday, Jan. 16 at 6:30.

3)  If you are trying out for All-West this Saturday in Jackson, you can go to wtsboa.com, click on  the What's New tab, and find your audition times.

4) Be ready to bring your instruments on Tuesday, as we will need to begin the process of choosing ensembles for the concert, and the process of Spring semester Chair Auditions.

Announcements 12/15

1)  Christmas concert tomorrow night at 7 pm.  Free admission, everyone is invited.  Band students need to be there at 6:30 for warm-up.  Concert attire: no jeans, hats, guys wear a collared shirt, ladies if you wear a dress keep it conservative.

2)  Everyone is invited to bring finger foods for the reception immediately after the concert.  Bring them backstage before the concert begins.  We will have tables set up.  Everyone is also invited to stay and eat after we have put the tables back out for school the next day.

3)  The Final Exam this week is to play all 12 scales and the chromatic scale memorized.  We have been working these scales every day during class, so there is no excuse not to know them by now.

4)  A big "Thank You!" to everyone who helped out with the Breakfast with Santa.  It ran very smooth and was in my opinion a success.  It is great to do this as a fundraiser, but even more it is a just a small way to give back to the community that supports us.  Speaking of which...

5) Another "Thank You!" to all of those who brought canned goods for the Band's entry in the Canned Creation competition.  Please feel free to go to the main foyer of the school before or after the concert tomorrow night to see the creation.  Also, it is never too late to bring more canned goods tomorrow.  All of these will go to a good cause.

Milk and OJ for Breakfast with Santa

All of a sudden, we are in need of Milk, Chocolate Milk, and Orange Juice for the Breakfast with Santa fundraiser this weekend. I am asking the different sections to bring some to school either today after school, or tomorrow (Friday) so that we can have enough for Saturday.
Woodwinds - Chocolate Milk

Brass - Milk

Percussion and Guard - Orange Juice
You don't need to get the gallon size, just the Quart size of each drink. I really appreciate your help in making this a great community fundraiser!

Just a reminder that the Band is doing concessions at tomorrow's (Tues, the 10th) basketball game. Those who volunteered, you need to be there at 5 pm. If you can't be there at 5 pm, let me know.
We might need a couple of more parents if you are able to come

Dress warm

Meet at the school at 2:30 if you are riding the bus.  Everyone else, get to the Soul Harbor church by 3:30.  Yes, 3:30. I don't want to stand out in the cold any more than we have to. We will stay on the bus as long as we can.  I want everyone wearing gloves, including brass and percussion.   Everyone needs to wear as many layers as can fit underneath the uniform.

I know it's cold, and I know there may not be as many people out there as usual, but let's still go out there and get the community of Medina in the Christmas spirit with a good show!
